Engineering Better Ways of Building
Helping alternative materials get built — and built right.
Helping alternative materials get built — and built right.
Engineering and design support with alternative material use in assemblies
The future of building is rooted in care for land and people using regionally appropriate materials
Enabling the use of natural materials through rigorous engineering, resilient and collaborative design
We provide engineering support to help get natural and alternative material projects through code from early-stage design through to stamped approval.
We specialize in envelope design, compliance pathways, and performance-based solutions for assemblies using hempcrete, panels, blocks, and other vapor-open systems.
With nearly 15 years of hands-on experience in straw bale, cob, hempcrete and more, with advanced training in building science, I help clients navigate the complexities of alternative construction.
We specialize in the design and performance of alternative material and vapor-open wall assembly systems, helping clients integrate new products and establish best practice.
Canadian climates are challenging, and often extreme. We have been testing assemblies and establishing construction details for various materials.
We need designs and homes that reflect the needs of the land and people they are part of.
We need to understand the details of use, the performance across seasons and the new ways of living with homes that can make us healthier.
From off-grid to net-zero, from rural to urban, from new builds to retrofits, we can help.
In 2014 we advanced our scope to include the design and care of living on and with the natural systems around us. We have won multiple permaculture design awards.
...the future of building is earthen construction. Christina believes that we need to reshape the building industry and fulfill our obligation to future generations to be built-zero while maintaining safety and comfort.
How is Goodvin Designs (GD) related to 3D Space Terraform (3DST)?
Goodvin Designs is the engineering application of alternative materials in building construction: research, prototyping, data collection, reporting. GD also consults professionally to enable local code approval of alternative material use in construction - like hempcrete - working with the structural engineers and architects to achieve best practice and performance.
3DST is the design and application arena centred around additive manufacturing and 3D printing in construction, but with a focus on local material use. 3DST is also focused on helping set up resilient and capable communities, opening housing and food security access, and leveraging 3D printing technologies to inspire local industry.
Current collaborations supporting new technology development in hempcrete and 3D printing.
